I was at my home, and I had this habit of seeing a movie
before going to sleep. This time I choose the movie “The Barbarian
Invasions”. Directed by Denys Arcand the movie is about a
terminally ill College Professor Remy, who is dying of Liver Cancer and he decides
to make amends to meet his friends and family before he dies. He is helped by his son Sebastain, a
successful businessperson in London, who uses all his will to make this
possible.
From bribing Remy’s college students to praise his father
that he was a great teacher to meeting his cousin and asking her to give his
father weed, so that he would be on a high and forget his pain, this movie
deals the simple truth of being together and sharing the pain.
I felt a real sense of happiness, after watching this movie
and was about to lie down, when my sister came to running to my room. She was
really sad, and told me that Dad had gone to toilet and was not coming out. I
rushed to and opened the door, and there he was sitting, unable to walk or
talk. We both helped him out together to the bedroom. I asked Mom to be calm
and be with Dad, while we both went down and made a really strong chai. We took
the chai and gave to Dad. He had some difficulty in drinking it, but somehow
finished it.
Now he was feeling a little better, but couldn’t walk or talk
properly. He was trying hard to talk but couldn’t. Without panicking, we took
downstairs, and made a really quick light breakfast. When we all together, we
have our food together and this time was also wasn’t different. We helped Dad
eat his food and quickly finished ours,
and when to hospital.
We reached hospital and rushed to Doctor. More than a Doctor,
he was a good-hearted soul, who Dad used to visit for regular checkups. He
asked for an M.R.I. and by noon we got the result. Dad had a thalamic Stoke and
he advised us to be really patient as the brain may take time to heal.
After two weeks of treatment, Dad was recovering really well.
Now he was able to talk and walk again.
Looking back down the memory lane, it has been two years, but
will I not ever forget the movie or the incident that happened afterwards.
